BIOGRAFIA (GLENN HUGHES)

difficilissimo elencare la lunga carriera di "Mr. Funky" Glenn Hughes, costellata da centinaia di collaborazioni, produzioni, dischi e....altro.
Inizio' nei primi mesi del 1967 a formare una band locale prettamente "Americana" nei suoni i Finders Keeper, nella quale Glenn mostro' subito il proprio talento con il basso suonando una sorta di musica psycho-funky-rock, piazzando il singolo "Send me more a letters" (poi riproposto anche con i Trapeze qualche anno dopo) nelle chart delle vendite di un certo livello.
Ma la vera notorieta' di Glenn Hughes venne a galla intorno gli anni '70, gli anni del Rock duro.......irripetibili anni 1970...infatti, con i Trapeze, conquisto' il mercato anglosassone e via via il resto del mondo.
I Trapeze durarono sin quando Mr. Glenn Hughes fu chiamato con i Deep Purple a sostituire il defezionario bassista Roger Glover (mentre David Coverdale sostituira' Ian Gillan) con essi incise bellissimi capolavori tra cui Burn (1974) Stormbringer (1975) ed il live che secondo me rappresenta di piu' il Mark III° (la 3° formazione dei Deep Purple) cioe' California Jam.
Dopo lo scioglimento dei Deep Purple del Mark IV° conseguente alla morte di Tommy Bolin (sostitui' Ritchie Blackmore nel 1974-75) e' da questo punto in poi che la vita di Glenn Hughes diventa una vera e propria sarabanda di collaborazioni, tra le quali, quella stupenda (oltre il primo disco solo PLAY ME OUT dedicato appunto al suo amico Tommy Bolin) fu proprio quella con Pat Thrall (grande chitarrista funky-rock) poiche' rese immensa la voce di Glenn Hughes.
Altra collaborazione importante fu quella avuta con i Black Sabbath, nel lontano 1986, per l'occasione del disco Seventh Star (intitolato a Tony Iommi) la fama della malasorte per aver suonato con i Sabbath si abbatte subito sul nostro Hughes (infatti Glenn non riuscendo a dimenticare il suo migliore amico Tommy Bolin, contuinua a fare uso di cocaina e di alcool che lo renderanno praticamente una larva senza neppure un filo di voce) nei primi due concerti, Hughes ubriaco e completamente allucinato dalle droghe rischia per ben due volte di "rotolare" dal palco....dopo una manciata di concerti con i Sabbath, deve lasciare e questa volta la sua fortuna sara' che trovera' una clinica dove si sottoporra' ad una disintossicazione "completa", rischiando la morte per un paio di volte....da questa situazione ne uscira' comunque a testa alta, riformando addirittura i Trapeze nel 1990, continuando pero' a parlare male dei suoi ex-compagni (i Deep Purple), secondo lui, responsabili della morte di Bolin...
Oggi Glenn Hughes e' considerato una vera e propria voce nera e le sue qualita' canore sono oramai nella leggenda del Rock, importante e' ancora una volta il contributo che riesce a dare a gruppi quali gli Asia, i Climax Blues Band, collaborando inoltre con calibri quali Jon Lord, Geoff Downes, Jon Uly Roth, John Norum (gli ricordera' molto il suo indimenticabile Tommy Bolin) i Whitesnake, ed altri, che lo consacreranno definitivamente nel firmamento delle rock star.
Collabora con i Phenomena di Mel Galley, e con Joe Lynn Turner dove incide tre bellissimi album (due in studio ed un Live), incontra ancora Tony Iommi e nel giro di due anni incidono altri due lavori....Adesso Mr. Funky, come simpaticamente viene chiamato dalla stampa, si merita il suo trionfo dall'alto dei suoi 55 anni non riposandosi, anzi, correndo a destra e manca per i concerti, produzioni, dischi, collaborazioni....un musicista davvero infaticabile.
L' ultima annotazione di cronaca...provate a leggere nei credits del book dei CD (dal 1994 in poi) e vedrete che oltre i vari personaggi Glenn Hughes ringrazia anche una persona "molto" speciale, cioe' DIO, quella persona cosi' speciale che un giorno gli ha salvato la vita......
